At Bea's Rat Rescue our aim is to take in unwanted, abandoned and abused rats and give them a better chance at life. We hope to find forever homes whenever possible for these delightful pets. We usually have a number of rats looking for homes, so be sure to check out our 'Rats Needing Homes' section.
We also want to work on raising awareness and sharing information about rats as pets.
We have only owned rats as pets since 2011 but they have stolen our hearts. We find that there is a growing number of rats looking for homes or finding themselves homeless in Ireland, hence why we decided to open the rescue. We do not recieve any funding, and everything is paid for out of our own pockets. This includes vetbills, cages, substrate, toys, beds food dishes and water bottles.
We do NOT condone buying rats from petstores. The conditions the rats are kept are inhumane.
Everyday our rats are fed the shunamite diet, aswell as fresh fruit and vet and leftover table scraps. We use wood pelleted cat litter as substrate. All our rats are kept in large cages in same sex pairs or groups and are given atleast one hour of free-ranging time everyday. Our cages are cleaned out atleast once a week, sometimes more depending on the size and the amount of rats living in it. All food dishes, water bottles, fleece, hammocks, sputniks and igloos are washed once a week also.
